This year’s conference theme, Design In Tension, explores the complex web of influences that shape the work of architects. Every project exists within competing priorities, balancing creativity and practicality, innovation and tradition, budget and vision, speed and quality, public interest and private needs.

These forces often conflict, requiring architects to make difficult choices and solve problems in ways that can create friction throughout the design process.

At a time when opposition and division can feel ever-present, architects are uniquely positioned to navigate complexity with creativity, collaboration, and leadership. Through thoughtful design, meaningful engagement, and strategic problem-solving, architects can transform tension into opportunity, creating projects that not only succeed technically and aesthetically but also positively impact the communities they serve and the people who experience them every day.
