Communications with Maui are still difficult, but many of the leadership have been confirmed safe. The components in Hawaii greatly appreciate the support of AIA California and AIA Colorado thus far. Julia told us, "This will be a decades long rebuilding process, and I'm sure our architects will play a big role in the future, but right now it's still very shocking." They are encouraged by your expressions of concern but are focused on dealing with immediate emergency needs right now and will not have the opportunity to respond promptly. So they suggest that the best way to support the community in Maui is to donate to the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation.
AIA Hawaii is working with AIA's sustainability team to hold a virtual Safety Assessment Program (SAP) training next week. If you should have ATC books for SAP trainers you can spare (particularly ATC20 and ATC45), feel free to mail those to Julia Fink, EVP, AIA Hawaii, at 828 Fort Street Mall, Suite 100, Honolulu, HI 96813.
